National Opera and Ballet Theatre
The Armenian National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A. Spendiaryan is situated in Yerevan. It was founded in 1932 and was unveiled in 1933 with the performance of A. Spendiaryan's "Almast" opera. Alexander Tamanian's architectural project was very ambitious, the state did not have sufficient means to support it, and Moscow refused to cover all the expenses.
Even now it is far from being completely finished by the creator's standards, however it is a crucial point of interest and one of the most visited places in Yerevan. Here, you will find the statues of composer Aram Khachaturian, writer Hovhannes Toumanian and composer Alexander Spendiarian. Upon observing Yerevan from an aerial view, you will notice that the National Opera and Ballet Theatre remarkably central in the city.
