The Rustaveli Movie Theatre
The Rustaveli Movie Theatre is located in Tbilisi, on Rustaveli Avenue opposite the Parliament of Georgia. The cinema was established in 1939 and had initially a seating capacity of 1200 people. It was designed by the architect Nikolay Severov in Stalinist architectural style, and has sculptures by Valentin Topuridze and Shota Mikatadze that represent different social groups.
The Architecture
It is a cuboid, four story building. The first floor is rusticated while the rest of the floors are designed by Corinthian pilasters. The top of the building is rendered as a overhanging cornice. In 1999 the Rustaveli Movie Theatre was renovated and reopened on 11 July 1999 with 415 seats. It shows mostly first-run blockbuster movies and has an average of 1000 visitors per day.
