Sameba Church, Tbilisi

The Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi (Sameba Church) is the main Cathedral of Georgian Orthodox Church and the third tallest Cathedral in the East. The Church has been built between 1995 and 2004.


Sameba Church is located in Avlabari District, one of the most historical districts in Tbilisi. The cathedral is situated on the left bank of Kura River, on Elia Hill. The church represents a form of a cross and there is a dome over the crossing. There are 9 chapels in the cathedral. Marble tiles have been used for the floor and the altar of the church is mosaic. The height of the church is 98 meters and the total area of the church is about 500 squares. The Church also serves as a residence for the supreme priests of the Georgian Orthodox Church. 

What is Special about Sameba Cathedral?

Sameba Cathedral is the largest religious building in the entire South Caucasus, which can accommodate up to 15, 000 people. The church has been built due to donations done by Georgian people.
