Aram Khachaturian House-Museum
Aram Khachaturian is one of the eminent Armenian composers of the XXth century. His name is renowned, his oeuvres are heard nearly all over the world in best stages and music halls. UNESCO is classifying Aram Khachaturian to the list of the most well known composers of 20th century, and from the creations on the first line stands his world-known «Sabre Dance», from «Gayane» ballet. The name of Aram Khachaturian is given to the Great Hall of National Philharmony of Armenia.
The House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian is located in Yerevan. The house-museum was founded by the order of the government of Armenia in 1978 the base for which served the private residence granted to Khachaturian by the government of Soviet Armenia in 1947. In his lifetime, Khachaturian had a chance to get to know to the sketches of the future museum only and to outspeak his wishes to architect Edward Altounian. The museum has opened its doors to the visitors in 1984.
The House-Museum of Aram Khachaturian has a bright hall with splendid acoustics where it has been more than a hundred years that world-known and young performers perform with their creations. They often organize events, concerts, music festivals, competitions, exhibitions, plays and evenings dedicated to famous composers and performers.
The museum has a unique collection of musical instruments, as well as a rich music library, with more than 4000 CDs belonging to the classic and modern genres. You will have a chance both to hear and watch the musical creations.
The son of Khachaturian, Karen, has transmitted to the house-museum his father’s belongings; those of dining room, office, bedroom, including the piano of the composer, the baton, letters, documents and numerous other artifacts from the family archive. The overall surface of the museum is 2000 square meters. There are kept more than 18000 valuable exhibits there, 12500 of which are the part of the main fund of the museum. It has an exhibition chamber the exhibits of which tell in detail about the creative and everyday life of the composer; his childhood, juvenescence, studentship and about his turbulent activity.
