Golden Apricot Film Festival
Yerevan is always full of life and motion in July and the reason of this is the annual Golden Apricot Film Festival.
The 8th annual Golden Apricot Film Festival is going to be the most incredible. The most talented film makers from around the world are set to show their best materials. Yerevan will come alive from July 10th to July 17th with over 150 films from 45 countries competing for four different awards.
The 2011 Festival
Iranian movie is going to open the 2011 festival and the "Pina" documentary directed by Wim Wenders will close the festival.
For the first time this year Golden Apricot Festival will present a special program that will feature Latin American films.
This year is the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification. This means that many Italian classic and contemporary films will be screened during the festival. Films about Armenia and Armenians will also be included in the festival, as this year Armenia celebrates its 20th anniversary of independence.
Golden Apricot Film Festival History
The festival was founded in 2004 with the objective of presenting new works by Armenian film directors and photographers as well as directors and photographers of Armenian descent. The festival has been a great success in promoting Armenian culture through film. In 2005, famed director Atom Egoyan was named the president of the festival.
The Golden Apricot is awarded for the best film in each category, and the Silver Apricot is given for special consideration in each category. The festival is partnered with the European Cultural Foundation and other major film festivals around the world. The success of the festival has drawn critical acclaim from all sides ensuring a long and successful future.
