Yerevan Zoo

Yerevan Zoo

The majestic Yerevan Zoo, located at 2 Myasnikian Street, is just a short distance from the Yerevan city center.

Established in 1940, Yerevan Zoo was originally known as the zoological garden of Yerevan and opened with just 1500 animals. The zoo spans 35 hectares and is tucked inside a grand and scenic gorge.

The zoo has a wide range of animals from around Armenia and the world. You can see a variety of lions, tigers, panthers, and other large cats as well as a variety of bears.  The zoo even has an elephant. Currently, there are over 2300 animals from 215 different species that reside at the zoo. The zoo also houses some very rare and endangered species including the Armenian bezoar goats. The zoo recently acquired several kangaroos, a couple of monkeys, and a few other species in an exchange program with the Ukraine zoo.

During May and June the zoo can be quite busy as that is the best season to visit. Couples and families can flock to the area in crows on the weekends as the zoo is a favorite location for the city residents to have a picnic and socialize.

Entrance fee and location

The entry fee is AMD 500 (~$ 2). The Yerevan zoo is an excellent choice for a day trip. You can take minibus # 28 from across from the Opera House to get to Yerevan Zoo.
