Yeghegnadzor
Yeghegnadzor
Yeghegnadzor is one of the richest cities in the variety of attractions and activities it offers. A number of places of interest are just at an hour's way from Yeghegnadzor, such as monasteries of Noravank, Tsakhatskar, Tanahati, and many smaller churches and monasteries, too. There are alsomany wineries, which are just still developing in terms of the touristic aspects of wine making. Areni winery offers wine tasting in their cellar. Magili Caverns, located off the way to Noravank are easy to find, but are a labrynth with narrow corridors and tunnels 1.7 km in length which makes high possibility of getting lost. The more impressive caverns of Arjer Cave and Mozrov Cave are harder to enter vecause of many reasons. For these caves it is advised to get a local guide from Yeghegnadzor, or you must be very experienced.
In order to reach Yeghegnadzor, you can take a bus or a taxi from Yerevan. Every bus going to Southern Armenia passes Yeghegnadzor which is on the only north-south highway. There is a cozy hotel in town, with very comfortable beds and tasty food.
The Yeghegnadzor bridge was built in the 13th century, which over the river Arpa consists of an arch 16 meters in span. The arch is ogival which considerably increases the height of the bridge roadway in the middle.
