Tatev Ropeway

 

Enjoy a breath-taking ride on the longest ropeway in the world.

The ropeay "Wings of Tatev" - a Guiness Book of Records entry - is located in Syunik Province, in the south of Armenia. The ropeay goes from the village Halidzor to the village Tatev. The ropeway was built particularly for getting to one of the world's unique medieval monuments - Tatev Monastery. But taking it is great fun, since you can enjoy fantastic aerial views of mountains and gorges and take pictures. 

 


 

DESCRIPTION

The cable car covers the distance between the villages Halidzor and Tatev that is about 5.7 km in 12 minutes and can carry 25 passengers at a time. The fare is 3000 AMD (~8 USD). The highest point of the ropeway is 320 meters. 

LOCATION

Tatev Village is 280 km far from Yerevan. To get to the ropeway you can take a bus or a taxi to the village Halidzor. A bus goining from Yerevan to the city Goris is 4000 AMD (~11 USD); from Goris you will need to take a taxi to the village Halidzor. A taxi from Yerevan to the village Halidzor will charge you about 30000 to 35000 AMD (~76 to 95 USD).

TATEV MONASTERY

The Tatev Monastery is one of the masterpieces of Armenian medieval architecture included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Tatev Monsatery was built during the 9th through 13th centuries and was hidden from strangers’ eyes thanks to its location. The Tatev Monastery was the religious, spiritual, political, and economic center of the Syunik duchy. It consists of St. Astvatsatsin Church, the Cathedral of Poghos and Petros, the gavit, residential and service premises. It used to be the wealthiest medieval monastery in Armenia.
