General Description
In Goris there are many unusual towers, forts, pyramids, caves, and rocky wonders.
During the years of the Soviet era, Goris was completely transformed into a beautiful city. It had received the status of a city from the Russian Empire. There are villas, public buildings, clinics, culture homes, middle schools, agricultural schools, a state theater, a culture chamber, a museum of patriotism, and several libraries. Goris is also a modern-day industrial center.
The city is laid out in the Valley of the Vararak River, which is surrounded by mountains. Chronologically speaking, the city can be called New Goris since Old Goris or, as citizens call it Kyores, is four kilometers away. The rocky dwelling, which is under special maintenance, is not only historical, but important in terms of tourism.
Old Goris or Goris village is located in the eastern part of the city and contains a series of caverns. The territory of the current city remained deserted until the 1870s. Lasti Khut, a hill that is considered a symbol of the city, is located in east Goris.
The first thing that lures tourists to Goris is the Monastery of Tatev. Those who visit Goris are amazed by the marvelous rocky pyramids and towering rocks. The monastery was founded in the 9th century.
