Vanadzor 

Vanadzor is the third largest city of Armenia with a population of 107, 394. It is the capital of the Lori Province and is considered one of the most beautiful cities of Armenia. Vanadzor is known for its admirable summer homes. Vanadzor is 128 km north of Yerevan and 64 km east of Gyumri. It’s also next to the valley of the Pambak River. The Bazum and Pambak mountains surround Vanadzor. Vanadzor has relatively cool summers and mild winters. Its' climate is characterized as humid continental.


It is believed that the city of Vanadzor dates back to the Bronze Age. Today, ancient tombs and other artifacts can be found at the local museum. Vanadzor, along with the cities of Gyumri and Spitak, suffered through the major earthquake of 1988. However, most of Vanadazor’s buildings, streets, and parks remained intact. Today, there are many noteworthy homes, apartments, and hotels in Vanadzor. Vanadzor is home to the Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute (named after Hovhannes Tumanyan) as well as the Mkhitar Gosh Armenian Russian International University. The city has 32 public schools, 6 technical intermediate colleges, and 20 nurseries. Vanadzor is also where the Armenian Constitutional Right-Protective Centre. The ACRPC is a human rights, non-governmental, organization. The ACRPC has a Human Rights Library Network in Vanadzor as well. Vanadzor also has an amazing art gallery, a Dramatic Theater that is named after Hovhannes Abelyan, and many other cultural centers. The Holy Mother of God church (Karakilisa) is one of the city’s oldest churches.
