Tsaghkadzor city is an excellent ski resort, which totally corresponds to international standards.

Geographical Position and Climate

Tsaghkadzor means “flower valley.” Formerly, it was included in Greater Hayq’s Varajhnuniq Province and served as a summer resort and hunting ground for the Armenian Arshakuni kings.

Tsaghkadzor is located in RA Kotayk Province, about 54 km from Yerevan. Tsaghkadzor has a mild climate. In January, the average air temperature is -6 C, in August +17C. The annual precipitations can reach 600-700 mm.

General Description

Tsaghkadzor is one of the most popular resorts of Armenia. It has a very developed infrastructure of tourism. There are many hotels, vacation homes, entertainment centers, sports complexes, and numerous monuments of cultural and architectural value. 

The Must-See Landmark

The Kecharis Monastery is located in Tsaghkadzor. It dates back to the 11th century and is one of the most interesting religious complexes of Armenia. Kecharis Monastery consists of 4 churches. Now it is the leading Church of Kotayk Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Amenities

The Tsaghkadzor ropeway was built on the slope of Mountain Teghenis in 1972. There are 5 ropeway stations. The ropeway has comfortable seats designed for 2 or 4 people and is 7500 meters long. 

Specially designed ski tracks stretch out on the slope of Teghenis Mountain. The total length of the ski path is 30 km. There are tracks designed for beginners, amateurs and for professionals. There are forests around the base of the mountain, where you can walk or ride a horse.

There are professional rescuers, a medical center, instructor-coaches in Tsaghkadzor ropeway area. There is also a convenient parking and rental centers, where you can rent ski equipment or sports accessories. The one-way ticket of the ropeway costs 1500 AMD. There are family and student discounts (20%).

The large ice-rink of Tsaghkadzor is on the central square of Tsaghkadzor town. The ice-rink is always crowded. It is a real pleasure to skate in the dark in this square. Night clubs of Kecharis and "Writers' Hotel" are good nightlife entertainment places as well. Jazzve cafe and a Tifosi pizzeria are also popular hangouts in Tsaghkadzor, where you can enjoy good meals and have a nice evening.

How to get to Tsaghkadzor 

Tsaghkadzor is about a 40 minute drive from the center of Yerevan. You can take a taxi to get to Tsaghkadzor from Yerevan. The ride will cost about AMD 6000. You can take a a bus to Hrazdan and catch something from there to get to Tsaghkadzor. The highways of Tsaghkadzor city are in ideal condition. The highway from International Zvartnots airport to Tsaghkadzor city is also in a very good condition. Zvartnots International Airport is about 75 km from Tsaghkadzor.
